The Talon

I am currently a Junior at Flagstaff High School. I’m originally from a small town in Northern Idaho that borders Washington and is separated by the winding Snake River. While I enjoy writing, I plan on pursuing a career in the medical field. I intend to stay in Journalism for the rest of high school and continue to write and edit for The Talon. I’m interested in topics about the ocean, music, and current issues.

Hi! My name is Hailey Boehme, I am currently a junior at Flagstaff High School. I’ve lived in Flagstaff my entire life, and I am very involved in the community and helping people out. While I enjoy writing very much, I’m passionate about the medical field and planning on going to college to become a pediatrician! I volunteer at the hospital front desk and the soup kitchen when I can! You might also see me around downtown hanging out with some friends or just helping the community in any way I can! I also frequent the farmers market often. I believe that writing is very important and can be insanely impactful if done right and you are passionate.

Simon Barnes Whitehead is a freshman at Flagstaff High School. He has always loved war history, music, and military and civilian aircraft. This has made him very good at reading maps and current events and world political events. He also loves collecting old war uniforms and artifacts from history. He was born in Columbus, Ohio and has two pugs and a cat. When he grows up, he wants to go to college and after join the navy as an officer. He loves the ocean and has been aboard multiple warships like the USS Midway, USS Missouri, and the USS Bowfin.

My name is Charley Bartholomew, I'm excited to be writing about sports (soccer specifically), and about school events like the dances. I love to write and read. My favorite book is the Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger. I especially love music. My favorite band is the Smiths; my favorite song is “Asleep” from “Louder than Bombs”. I do lots of sports including club soccer, school soccer, flag football, and I would like to try track and field.

Hello! My name is Sami, I am a freshman here at Flagstaff High School. I’ve lived in Flagstaff my whole life, so little longer than 15 years. Outside of school, I work at the old town shops in PJ and I enjoy theater. I love listening to music, drawing, watching scary movies, and baking. In addition to my interest, I also value community, family, and grades. I have goals to help and inspire people throughout my life and make a difference in some shape or form :)

In the year 2026-2027, I most look forward to graduation and continuing to strive towards a higher education. I am interested in psychology studies, anime, and sports. I am currently working on finishing my high school diploma, and balancing AP, honors courses while enjoying my sports. I look forward to finishing high school in Flagstaff. I am currently doing individual research for psychology and neuroscience; I plan to continue after high school.

Hi, I’m Abagail Feliz. Some of my interests are: reading, running, seeing beautiful sights and Track and Field. I love reading mental health book and cute romance books, like 100 Boy Kisses. I pole vault in Track and Field. My current PR is 7.5 feet; my goal is to get 9 feet this coming up track season. Coming from Sedona, the sunsets you see and the beautiful red rock are one of the prettiest sights I’ve ever seen. In my future, I want to be a detective, it’s been my dream job since I was around 12.

Tyla Hoffa is currently a freshman staff writer for The Talon. Tyla is a Color Guard member, a dancer, and an aspiring writer, teacher, or therapist (…she is also quite indecisive). She is taking journalism to pursue her passion for writing. Beyond this, she enjoys reading, crocheting, music, and so much more. She is currently navigating her way through high school, making friends, and discovering who she is.

Hey! My name is Poli’si Marcus. I am a freshman this year at Flagstaff High School. I like to play piano and harp. I like to paint, take photos, bake, and listen to lots of music. I want to learn about journalism and report on the happenings in our world and around the school. Writing has always brought me joy, and I hope my writings will bring you some to.

I'm new to both Journalism and FHS this year. Coming from FALA, I previously worked on their journalism team the “Fresh Ink”. I'm a creative and reportorial writer as well as a photographer featured at the Coconino Center for the Arts. I also am a credited filmmaker. I intend to write about significant world events and topics that need to be addressed more. I'm excited to add my talents to The Talon.

Hi my name is Lena and I am a junior at Flagstaff Highschool this year. I transferred from Coconino High School to FHS this year because I wanted a fresh start at a new school. This past school year, I realized how much kinder people from Flag High are, so I was so excited to make the change. I enjoy writing and have always been good at it; however, I plan to become an engineer.

Hello, I am Lex Miller! I like live music, writing, movies, and working out. I just moved to Flagstaff this year from Texas, and I have lived all over the place. I am particularly interested in journalism because it is another genre of writing with entirely new rules. I’m excited to be writing articles for the fine folks here at Flag!

Hi, my name is Shalom Leadingham, I am a junior at Flagstaff High School. I moved from Kentucky my freshman year. I enjoy reading, writing, hanging out with friends, and hiking. Something I’ve accomplished this year is; becoming self-sufficient. I have my own job, car, and pay for myself nine times out of ten. Another goal I have is to be elected for an officer position in HOSA this semester.

My interests are aerodynamics, engineering, aerospace engineering, aircraft/aircraft designs, jet engines, katanas and European longswords. This year I want to get all A’s, run a 5-minute mile, and later in the future, design a flying military aircraft and fly a military aircraft (F-15 or F-22). A project that interests me is the USAF F-22 Super Raptor upgrade program.

My name is Ariel Vanwinkle. I’m a freshman at Flagstaff High School. My interests consist of: reading, cooking/baking, and photography. Outside of school, I also do marching band where I’m on the color guard team. I enjoy practicing all the routines for our performances at the football games. I’ve lived most of my life here in Flagstaff, Arizona, but I was born in a small town in Nevada before consistently moving around.

Hi! My name is Grace Whitehorse; I am currently a freshman at Flagstaff High School. I was born in Glendale, Arizona, I also live in the Kinlani Dormitory. The things that interest me are reading, drawing, and cooking. My goals for high school are to have good grades, and have fun. The job that I want to pursue is being an orthodontist. Learning how the teeth work and seeing how braces fix teeth has always fascinated me. The topics that truly interest me are music and English.

I am Liam F. Whiterock. I live on the Navajo Reservation, and I like music a lot and hope to publish my own songs and get them out there to people who want to listen to them. I also really like to start writing more on the bands here at Flagstaff High School and just music in general. I believe everyone is talented and should be respected, for that so I’m starting with people that are good at guitar or other instruments. FHS is home to many talented people, and I want them to be heard for their future plans and their idea of a good future they want.

Seal enjoys boxing, playing football with his friends and video games in his free time. He likes music a lot, specifically hip hop and RnB. He would like to learn more about tv production and music in the future as he is very passionate about these subjects.

I am Santiago Nuno. Here are some things I'd love to share with our campus/community. Outside of school, my biggest interests lie in outdoor adventure and technology. I love rock climbing, backpacking, and frequently spend my time bouldering locally here in town at Beta Bouldering Gym. My love for the outdoors truly took off when I was 13, during an unforgettable month-long backpacking trip in Colorado at Colvig Silver Camps, one of the largest summer camps in the northern United States. On the tech side, I am a huge enthusiast and have successfully built two computers from scratch, both of which I still use daily. When I am not outdoors or working on hardware, I read massive amounts of manga, with some of my absolute favorites being Chainsaw Man, Frieren, One Piece, and Death Note. This year, I want to combine my creative and technical skills to help build a dynamic, engaging publication for everyone to enjoy.

My name is Alexis Venn and I’m a pretty chill guy I’d say. I like reading, I like spending time with close friends and family, and just being outside of the house! I love animals and also, I have a strong passion for writing as well. I’m not exactly sure what my plans are after I graduate, but I know that I have some things in mind, but Psychology and Medicine are my top 2 for sure. I love helping others and I believe that being kind to others around you can get you very far!

I’m Elliot, I like Attack on Titan, music, and psychology. Yes, yes those are my interests that are so very interesting. I want to accomplish a lot of things most of which are personal goals like finishing my film that goes into a web comic series, but for journalism I’d say I just want to get better at writing articles in general and writing as a whole since that’s a thing I do a lot, but I feel as though I need to start upping my vocabulary and punctuation skills.
